WAR valve tuning thread

The Benjamin Marauder air rifle can be tuned. You can adjust the trigger and the rifles velocities for different fill pressures.

I also like high shot count. The 177 M-rod will amaze you - so quite and so many shots per fill yet it is still powerful.

When I'm around new folks who don't know much about airguns, I only let them shoot my 177 and they think it must not be very powerful because it is so quiet. Little do they know... and I don't let them even know about the 25 calibers....they might be afraid to walk around the same property with someone shooting a "pellet" gun that powerful.

Why modify for more power?

I wanted a hunting gun for larger game, I had a Sam Yang 909S for a day or two. I was not impressed with the quality... The gun was pretty, light weight, the power about 200FPE, and the trigger about a 48 lb pull LOL. There were also several more design flaws, and they were too much trouble to deal with. I returned it.

I looked at the Crosman Bulldog 357, but 200 FPE isn't enough, even with 6 shots in a mag

I just preordered the Airforce Texan, it's ugly, but I think it's got what I want.

I love modifying my MRods and Prods, but I'll never be able to get 500 FPE with them no matter how I try.

They make great small/medium game guns. But I want something with massive power, ease of use, and reliable.

I'm not sure what you're planning to hunt that 200 FPE is not enough. Please tell us.

I've been impressed by the Airforce modified guns shooting boolits accurately out to pretty long ranges. I entered the draw for a Quackenbush, but the odds of getting drawn are very low and I did not get drawn.

The Marauders will always be for 100 yards or less for me and the shots over 80 yards are pretty rare. So far, I don't have a use for ultra high power either, but if I get a chance to buy a quality big bore, I want to try one out anyway.

I know what you mean about these cheap triggers. Ugh! That is another thing Crosman did right with the Marauders.

RayK,
We're going after Elk, and Large pigs, and deer... I was invited for this season, and I tried to round up a suitable gun in September, but there were none to be had.

The waiting lists for the smaller manufacturers is literally years long, and there wasn't a South Korean gun anywhere until last week.

The Texan is for next season, I'll be prepared, experienced with the gun, and ready to go.

Some of the states we were hunting require 40 cal and above for deer.

Wow! That sounds awesome!

Do you have to use an air rifle?

I'd use my compound bow for those three, but a big bore airgun would be fun too.

I'd be tempted to get one of the Quackenbush 458 caliber. Maybe offer $1000 for a good used one.....then up it until I got one.
