First string after Staley mod

The Benjamin Marauder air rifle can be tuned. You can adjust the trigger and the rifles velocities for different fill pressures.

Well, after hundreds of pellets and too many fills on my bottle, I have decided the bstaley mod doesn't work for me. I cannot even get 20 good shots. I'm not going to bore you with dozens of shot strings, but I will say I never got a bell curve and the velocities were erratic. I started out with +1 turn on the spring tension and went up to +6 in half turn increments at each shot string leaving the striker at +2. At some points I'd have a 50+ fps spread in 4 shots. I'm not sure if there is anything wrong with my rifle, but the o rings didn't work for me. I cleaned my rifle after every 500 shots. I think I'm going to remove the o rings and start over from scratch using the crosman premiers. That's after I go buy more because I went through 2 full brown boxes trying to tune. I'll post my results in a new thread because this one is getting full. Thank you all for your help in my debacle.

Your tuning it incorrectly for a Buffer o-ring mod I've seen this all to many times but instead of me going into great detail and going back and forth with texts just give me a call at the shop and I'll explain it, it i fact is almost opposite of how one normally tunes a Marauder. did you by chance grease the hammer?
99% of the time it's the shooter, not the gun.

That is probably too far out for BHB. Did you read how to do it first? You should always start with HT (striker) at max then very slowly increase velocity.

I did not lube up the hammer. It appeared to have a thin coat of moly on it. I did read how to tune after the mod, and I thought it said you use the striker adjustment to get your velocity. I also thought it said the mod is for a lower psi fill, but adjusting the hammer spring tension higher would set your curve at a higher psi. I could have gotten my thoughts mixed up which wouldn't be uncommon for me :-) Travis, I definetely will give you a call later on this week if I can get my bottle filled and more pellets in. As of now, my marauder is at the stock settings with the stock spring and I still can't get any kind of a good string out of it.

Are you supposed to grease the hammer? I installed the WAR NBH recently and the old hammer came out dry, I put the new one in dry too.

I don't grease my hammers. If you do, just the thinnest possible hint of moly grease. Any thickness to the grease will make the shot curve temperature sensitive as the grease gets more viscous as it gets colder.

No grease at all. I use teflon spray or silicon dry spray lube.
