As you raise hammer energy, it raises peak velocity, but also shifts your good shot string to a higher fill pressure.
Hammer energy is increased by either increasing hammer spring preload or by increasing hammer throw.
In the stock gun, they are equal. One turn CW on HT is equal to one turn CCW on HS preload for decreasing hammer energy and vice versa. So a tune of HS +2, HT +2 will give you the same shot string as +6, +6. VMS just chokes the valve output which reduces peak velocity. If you constrict it enough, it will add some more good shots (within a given extreme spread) on the down side of the shot string.
The most important thing to remember is these settings will move as you shoot unless you take steps to prevent them from moving. Loctite is not the right thing to use here because it cures then if you make any changes, it breaks the hold and crumbles putting a bunch of debris into your gun. Vibratite VC-3 works very well for this application.
