Help me tune my .22

The Benjamin Marauder air rifle can be tuned. You can adjust the trigger and the rifles velocities for different fill pressures.

Help me tune my .22

Postby jlands on Sun Oct 10, 2010 8:40 am

Hi all. I have the 22 and would like some help. i only have a hand pump so I would like to have a starting pressure of 2500 psi.

settings:
3.5 turns out on velocity
7 turns in spring preload
13.5 turns out hammer stroke

start pressure- 2525 on pump gauge ~ 2590 on gun gauge - crosman premier 14.3 domed
10 shot string:
934.5
936.4
930.1
929.5
926.6
927.0
925.4
921.0
922.1
917.4

end pressure- 2300 on gun gauge.

I want to tune for 27-28 ft/lbs about 922 to 930 fps. i also want to save my spring. I am looking to get a 10-15 shot string with a curve. something like:
925
927
930
931
932
934
935
935
934
932
930
928
926

I will take any any all tips. just keep me at about 2600 maybe 2700 psi.

thanks

About me? A cable installer who slangs a ladder daily. I am 5'9", 185 lbs and in decent shape. Pumping to 2700 requires me to pick my feet off ground for last 100-125 psi. any way, a new string on same tune settings.

2725 on pump- 2780 on gun - crosman premier 14.3 domed

927.6
925.7
931.2
934.6
939.3
2650 on gun
936.8
940.1
937.6
939.9
938.1
2550 on gun
934.9
932.4
931.7
930.1
926.8
2425 on gun
925.8
923.1
920.6
917.1
913.9
2240 on gun

This seems pretty good but i wish this would be @ 2500psi start. looks like a great 3000psi tune.i am more worried about spring life.

any comments?
I believe in gun control as long as I am the one controlling it. :)

rechecked setting from full counter clockways

settings:
3.5 turns out on velocity
7 turns in spring preload
6 turns out hammer stroke

Ive been confused about this in other posts too. If you are full counter clockwise does that mean all settings no matter if it says in or out are turned the amount given in the clockwise direction?

settings:
velocity-- 3.5 turns out counterclockwise
spring preload-- 4 turns in clockwise
hammer stroke-- 5 turns in clockwise
pressure-- 2600 on pump/ 2630 on gun

crosman premier 14.3 domed

string--

933.0
933.6
941.3
938.8
942.9

pressure-- 2500 on gun

936.3
940.1
939.2
943.7
936.7

pressure-- 2400 on gun

937.8
939.2
939.5
934.0
934.0

pressure-- 2275 on gun

930.7
927.3
923.9
918.3
915.5

pressure-- 2125 on gun

913.1
908.9
901.0
899.7
895.3

pressure-- 1950 on gun

I must admit this looks pretty darn good and seems to be screaming for a 3000 psi fill. I doubt that i will touch anything soon.

i am still concerned about spring tension. Is 4 turns in from preload to much?

thanks

according to the manual i should be 6 in on spring( says it spins after that) and actually took me 6 turns out to preload. for stroke it took me 6 to get back to full out.

in my last post above and any further post, my-

meter settings will be written as " turns out from full in "
stroke and spring will be written as " turns in from full out"

as always, in will = clockwise and out will = counterclockwise.

thanks.

Thats what I thought but I was thinking the in the A team tuning guide they say turn all settings out counter clockwise and they said this would be the starting point. I could have read that wrong but I just realized that not everybody followed their guide. Thanks for the explaination.

np. I am still overwhelmed with the tuning ability of the marauder. About 60 - 70 shots into the tune, i thought i would never get a descent curve, but then it started falling in line. the ateam guide is what started getting me there along with some guesstimation. i am too scared to adjust further because i am not comfortable with my and/or my marauder's ability to repeat these settings once i get to turning.

thanks

alright, got me some h&n barracudas. it's rainy today so i did a limited tune. i need to check the accuracy before i spend a lot of time tuning. no need for a good spread and it spits all over.

preload- 4 cw
stroke- full ccw
meter- 3.5 ccw

pressure- 3040
854.8
854.6
853.8
853.7
855.5
pressure-2930
863.4
865.8
868.6
862.2
864.2
pressure- 2750
857.5
863.6
866.4
861.5
865.2
pressure- 2600
855.6
857.8
857.9
854.6
853.5
pressure- 2425
849.8
843.0
841.6
835.1
831.6
pressure- 2250
828.3
823.6
819.8
810.7
806.4
pressure- 2025

850 fps = 33.7 ft/lbs = not to bad

comments welcome.

Jared,

This is a great curve. Most important thing is to judge accuracy and determine if the Barracudas are shooting straight. Shoot targets at 30, 50 and 70 yards. Sight in at 50 yards then switch to 30 and 70 to check for spin drift. Holdover/under is OK but spin drift is hard to compensate. I plotted your shot string.

Regards,
Scott
