Reworking the air valve

The Benjamin Marauder air rifle can be tuned. You can adjust the trigger and the rifles velocities for different fill pressures.

Reworking the air valve

Postby DR650 » Sun May 04, 2014 10:10 am

It is windy these days and I want to rework my air valve. I have a complete machine shop but lack the knowledge on what to do
I have Motorheads drawing and will go with that if it is what I need for a regulated 22
I installed the regulator yesterday but haven't had a chance to play with it because of the weather.
The transfer tube diameter in the diagram is 4.5 mm or .177? Is this the right size , everything I have read has it about .160
there is a 5 mm spacer in the poppet valve spring to shim it up? Do I add this also??
All this stuff is easy to do but I have to have it clear in my own mind what to do.
Any input would be greatly appreciated.
I am also going to install a Motorhead light weight hammer.
I would also like to have opinions on the 3 0 ring BHB? I have 3 number 211 O rings in stock?
Thanks Guys

I'll let others pipe in about the machining parts. But, I think if you have a light weight hammer, reg, and do the other mods, you shouldn't do the o-ring stuff at least until you see how it shoots. It might be so good that any more will just screw it up. Just thinking, don't do too much at any one time or you lose track of what is making a difference and what isn't.

Fun, though, isn't it? I mean not just shooting the gun, but tinkering with it.

What about the transfer port size?? 4.5 mm and the barrel port size? again 4.5 or .177? Is this getting a little big??

In the .177 cal guns ... tad more velocity stability will come with transfer passage valve to barrel at @ .140" ... Max power at .150"
In .22 cal guns .... .160-.165" ;)

Throat behind poppet seat reamed to .250" in BOTH calibers using the stock poppet

Have fun

Will the transfer port accept a .165 drill or will I break through the side wall? I see posts of using a brake line?? poly?? could I just turn one out of aluminum or brass??
Can I take my popet valve spring and uncoil one end to make it bigger?? |I want to bore the spring retainer bigger all the way through which would not work with the stock spring.

Personally use Conical springs that allow taking cap out to a size just shy of threads root ... Gives excellent flow into valve.

Stock transfer tube will only take @ .150" before the stub ends get drilled away. Sizes larger best using the Poly or Brake tube trick ;)
