Extreme Spread & Standard Deviation

Postby zen0s on Sat Nov 13, 2010 4:15 pm

Hello everyone, I'm having some trouble understanding Extreme Spread and Standard Deviation using chronograph. I did search google but it didn't seem too clear for me... I guess I'm just not understanding correctly. What kind of number am I aiming for during tuning Mrod? Lower the numbers for both more consistent speed and group, correct? Extreme spread is difference between fastest and slowest? As far as standard deviation is it talking about grouping?

So confusing... :( my apologies for ignorance again, and thank you in advance

Basically the standard deviation shows you how much variation from the mean (or average) you have (from shot to shot). The lower this number is the closer each shot is to the average (of all the shots). Overall, I would just concentrate on obtaining the lowest possible spread (if it's important to you). Steve
