Bunny Busting, Aus Style

Removed from the general section/newbie from Aus thread.

This is a pic of my trusty old 766 with a few bunnies I bagged a couple of weeks ago.
(the O'l girl has taken a few others over the years too)

I generally like to sit & wait over looking a Warren for Rabbits, with either the Sluggy (Slug gun as they are known here) or with a .222rem.
That way I shoot on My terms, as in distance & time to set up the shot.
The old Crosman is limited to about 20m on rabbits but one of those in the pic was taken at 30m using PBA Raptors (all head shots of course)
As mentioned in the other thread, I'm really itching to get my hands on the Marauder & extend that range considerably.
I even traded in a .22Lr to help fund the purchase as I feel it would have become redundant any way with a Marauder in the line up!

Cheers, Mick.

Nice! And this is definately the bragging-board. Be sure to snap pics of your prizes, as we'd love seeing them.

We don't have any restrictions on what we can hunt here, or with what weapon, no tags or permits required except for some of our protected natives Ie, small native marsupuals & some Birds & Ducks depending on which state your in.

Thanks to the stupidity of past governments here (conveniently for us hunters) we do have a wide variety of introduced species which are in abundance & make for some good hunting.

For the Airguns:-
Rabbits (top the list)
Indian Myna birds.
Starlings (birds)
pigeons
rats
Foxes (for the higher power Airguns)
Cane Toads

probably a few other introduced pests I have not thought of just yet.

Ducks (Native but prolific & allowed)
Native Scrub Turkeys (private property only & make good eating)
Flying Foxes (Fruit bats) not allowed but necessary at times. Australia is a big place & what they don't know, Won't hurt them! :D

So Ducks & Rabbits are the main air rifle targets for some one looking to fill his tucker bag.
But probably not much different to you guys.

For the Powder burners:-
Pigs (top the list)
Goats
Roos
Asian Water buffallo
Deer of many varieties (all introduced)
Camel
Emu (although, God only knows why, they don't eat well from what I hear)
Wombat (if they become a pest)

So, anything introduced & pretty much all of our natives which are not on an endangered or protected list are all fair game.
I personally, mostly, only hunt pest/introduced species of all types & only natives if I want them for food.

Cheers, Mick.

That's awsome. In Ca with out a tag or a permit your pretty limited.
Even if your just pesting, I believe the law is you still have to carry your hunting license.
So mostly sparrows, starlings or cowbirds and ground squirrle where I live.
Also, Like you said what they don't know, won't hurtem.

No matter if you put a smilie face on it or not, there's no need for ethnic slurs around here. ... :D

Good bunnies! A lot better looking than the jack-rabbits around here. While in Orlando, Florida a couple of weeks back, I saw a little cotton-tail run from the bush. This thing was so perfect (as everything seems in Orlando), that it could have been Thumper, himself! 8-)

Mighty fine of you to show up to the party with pics. Keep the camera handy when you start popping varmints with your Mrod. :)

No such thing as a Hunting License here.
Although we do need a permit/license to hunt in the national Parks but that does not interest me, I have plenty of private properties I can hunt on.

Yes, I was shooting for a laugh with that one. They can't all be winners. The reference was of the name Mick also being a slur for an Irish man. You didn't say anything wrong. As the evening wears on, I sometimes humor myself more than others.
