SWEAR IT TO BE TRUE

Postby rbolton6 on Wed Jan 13, 2010 9:16 am

Let me start by saying I have been an avid bowhunter for about 35 years.
I know how to get close to deer - REAL CLOSE !
That said I got to thinking, after taking beaver, coons, possum and swamp cats so easily with my 22 cal, what would it do on a deer.
I managed to take a spike with my bow this past season and after dressing it out for the freezer, saved the head and proceeded to the back yard for some testing.
I placed the head 15 yards out and shot from 4 different angles.
All four shots completely penetrated the skull and did massive brain damage.
Next step was to call the local warden that my son and I had taken the hunter safety course with years ago.
He had mentioned in that course that it was legal to shoot a deer with a 22 caliber rifle in my home State.
When I posed the question to him, he stated that no one had ever asked that one before and that the regulations did state a 22 caliber was legal and it mentioned nothing about that having to be a firearm.
That was all I needed to hear.
The next weekend I headed to a local hotspot.
About 2:30 in the afternoon this guy happened to walk by at about 12 yards.
One shot to the temple ( between eye and ear about 1 inch up) dropped him like a rock.

I am not advocating the shooting of deer with these rifles but simply showing that it can be done and
these things are not toys !!! We need to be aware of this while plinking in our back yards. !!!!!!!!

Be Safe and Always HEAD SHOTS...HEAD SHOTS. HEAD SHOTS !

Wow great shot.
Thanks for posting some background as to your skills.
Perfect shot placement and angle makes all the difference.

At close range like 12 yards if you are a good shot you can put the pellet anywhere you want ;)

I may give it a try this weekend on the SMALLER ones if the weather holds up here.
We have beasts like this roaming the swamps here - Wanna make darn sure it'll take em down.
They tend to get a bit testy :)

That is most impressive.

Oh, had a message from UPS on my machine when I got in from work today. My Marauder is in town and scheduled for delivery tomorrow but someone has to be present to sign for it. So, sadly, I will not be here and will have to make arrangements for the delivery the following day at another location (my mechanic's shop) so someone over 18 can sign for it. Ohhhhhh, the trials and tribulations of complying with state and federal laws since there have been so many drive by shootings and hi jacking attempts with air rifles. Won't be long before we have to be fingerprinted, photograped and declared a lawful owner of airguns, hammers, knives, skill saws etc..

No Beasts yesterday...Just these little porkers !
I was up in a stand and the sows never came into a comfortable range for me.
So I settled for these little rascals.
This is 7 out of about what must have been 40 or more little rooters running around out there.
They had no idea I was even there or what was happening to their buddies !!!
I wish I could've gotten more, as these things are literally tearing our hunting land to pieces.

This Marauder is one wicked air rifle !!!!

I was home before dark, had all of them skinned and on a bed of red hot hickory coals as fast as I could go.
Me and the boys sat around a campfire and ate little piggies till we about popped.

You owe it to yourself to try one of these little piggies grilled over hot hickory charcoal.
Some of the best eatin ever !!!!

I had forgotten to ask in my earlier reply but "What pellet and weight did you use to drop the buck???"

Great mess of little piglets and most certainly had to be tasty.

I use the Beeman Kodiak extra heavies at 21 grains
At 50 yards they group just as well as the Crosman CP 14 grains and have the knock down power I am looking for.

And yes them little uns are some of the best eating you'll ever sink your teeth into.
Going back for more next weekend :)
