Great experience with Trenier buying a Field Target scope

Postby cz_rimfire » Tue Aug 12, 2014 8:28 pm

Hi guys,
I want to put in a good word for Trenier Outdoors, which is apparently the only importer(?) at the moment for MTC/Optisan scopes. I'm getting into Hunter-class FT, and was looking for more suitable scope than the 8-32 Mueller I pulled off my Remington. I discovered the Viper/Mamba scopes are very popular in UK Field Target because of their 1/2 mil SCB reticle and low-ish price (and Motorhead is running one, which is a good sign), and thought I would give one a try.

I don't have any relationship with Trenier, except buying a Viper 4-16x from them for my Marauder. The first scope I got had a manufacturing issue (loose reticle) and Jeff/Trenier immediately took it back and express-shipped out a new one, after testing the replacement for the problem. He was great to deal with and very quick with communications. A class act all the way.

As for the MTC Viper, I just got it mounted and sighted, shot 20 pellets at 30 yards, and so far so good. The clarity seems about the same as the Mueller 8-32, but the focus really snaps in and makes ranging easier. The big selling point, the fine reticle and 1/2 mil marks, is absolutely going to make holdover easier. We'll see how it goes at the next match!

Didn't get the wheel (yet), I'm trying to pace the cash flow a little bit. How come there are no "cheap" hobbies?

I will need one though...not sure if you saw my 4" wheel made out of white plastic cutting-board on the Mueller scope on Sunday. It looked HORRIBLE but worked great!

Did notice it ... just not closely 8-)
In HFT at 12x your going to want range scaling as opened up as you can ! ... Strongly suggest a Wheel of Coma type with 5-6" diameter ;)
