Looking for scope

Postby LEM » Fri Aug 15, 2014 10:09 pm

I am looking at getting a Maurader .177 air rifle. It will be used for shooting birds and small rodents. normally within 50 to 75 feet. What is a decent low cost scope and what do I need for mounting it on the Maurader.

If you are going to carry the Marauder around while you hunt, get the Simmons 6-21X44 44 Mag scope with mildot reticle. It is light and the only scope I recommend for the otherwise heavy Marauder rifles because the scope weighs only 11 ounces.

I use it on 10X for hunting and 21X for benchrest and accuracy testing. I wish it had more mildots, but at least it has them. It costs around $140. If you put a heavy scope on your Marauder, you will not enjoy carrying it in the field for very long. I also recommend you get a good sling like this one http://www.midwayusa.com/product/360294 ... ylon-black Walmart carries it.

I always use and recommend BKL single strap mounts which are about $20.

I totally agree with what Ray has said. The Simmons .44 Mag scope was just made to go on the Marauder, and it works great for all the kinds of shooting I do.

Thank You. That looks like it is exactly what I need. Is there anything extra I need to mount it on the Marauder.

When backed off to 10X it is bright and clear. some of my other more expensive scopes are still much darker than the simmons.

I will eventually swap in Simmons 44 Mags on all my field carry Marauders.

Ray, any word on that new Leapers 1/2 mil dot with the internal level? It looked very promising.

A set of BKL mounts. http://www.bkltech.com/BKL-6-Long-Dovet ... kl-257.htm

Medium or high, your preference as which fits you better.

Hi Jimmy.

I have not tried it yet. Leapers have great features for the money, but I find them a little bit blurry. I did not notice at first, and thought they were great so I bought another model, but after looking through better scopes, I just see so much more detail and get less eye fatigue with a better scope.

Simmons glass is good enough (and great for the money), but the features and lightness are what make it my choice for the otherwise heavy Marauder rifles.

Ray, do you know if there on the market yet? I've checked PA recently and didn't see anything there.

You can email the company and they can answer you.

http://www.leapers.com/

My buddy bought one of the latest Leapers 30mm 6-24X56 and said it is awesome and he loves the new reticle too, but it may not be the half mildot reticle. I have not been up to his place (so far away), so I have not looked through it.
