I have a older Leupold 3-9x40 and was thinking about mounting on my beni.25 to hunt turk, but now I am thinking that a lower magnification would be better. Any suggestions on this?

Hey PD, I don't hunt turkeys (plenty of squirrels though) but I can't imagine having less magnification would be an advantage, especially if your looking for that head shot at a longer distance, right? Steve

I have never hunted turk until this coming March, but what I have read and talked with the guy I will be hunting with, it seems that the lower power will offer more field of view and also they like to call the turks in for their shot guns.

With the Marauder, I should be able to get past 50 yds for the kill. So the dilemma...I need a scope from 3 yds up to 100 with great field of view??

Huh, if field of view is most important, then yes less magnification is what you'll need. Now finding a happy medium. This certainly will be more challenging then a good-ol 12 gauge. Steve

Did any of those four stand-out, or did another one come to mind? I still am considering my Leupold, simply because I have it and suspect it will work, maybe not as good as a low powered scope.

Your Leupold is a 3-9 power? How much lower in power would you want to go than 3 power?

Field of view at shotgun distances won't be an issue even at 9 power.

The scopes that I was able to identify for turkey hunting are all 1x plus. Given this, I am lead to conclude that the manufacturer's have consulted with experts and have gathered there recommendations and developed a scope targeting this field of interest.

With a higher powered scope and hunting smaller game, finding your target at a distance may not happen the first time you raise your rifle to get on the target. On the flip side; it would be nice having the 9x for the longer shot when the bird will not come in!

I am also was wondering about the 3x; thinking that the FOV at this power should work? Since I have not shot a Marauder and have not hunted turkey, I posted this question in hopes of finding a definite answer. I suspect the best choice is to mount up the Leupold and hunt for a season and then decide?
