if you get the 3k compressor you've pretty much limited yourself to filling the gun directly from the compressor. that could get tedious after a while too. also, tom kaye warns that the auto shutoff isn't precise anyway. so you still need to keep an eye on it even if you get the 3k compressor.

if you get the 4500 then you can fill scbas and fill the gun directly if you need to for some reason (again, as long as you keep an eye on it...)

tom did say the 3k compressor may be faster than the 4.5.

scba seems the only way to go. I got a 44 cu ft on ebay pretty cheap. joe brancato sells used ones for a good price too. the other "low cost" option is a pigmee from air hog for $275. you can get about a dozen fills from that and it should fill from the compressor pretty quickly.

nalby, I hooked mine up finally today for the first time. the left hand pully (the one connected to the aluminum block) seems to have alot of play in mine, moving in and out maybe an 1/8 to a 1/4 inch with each stroke. do you see that in yours?

will have to send tom a note and ask if that's within normal range.

filled my new marauder from 700 to 3000 in about 15 minutes. this is great. (got one of tuna's connectors with a large gauge on automags.org. makes it alot easier than trying to look at the gun's gauge.)

still waiting for my cf tank to come in...

i'm glad you got yours going. I checked mine it only moves about 1/32 or so. I guess you'll have to wait to here for Tom. Beats pumping dosn't it

thanks for checking. yeah, think I'll take a short video and post it for tom to take a look at. I'm filling my 4500 cf tank now so if there's a problem, I'll probably find out tonight...

seriously, the hand pump would have killed me...

I'd love to have one of those but I thought I'd give it a year or two to see how they are holding up.
