marauder won't fill from paintball tank????

Postby protoman421 on Fri Jun 25, 2010 3:50 pm

hooked up my brand new 60cu/in paintball eagerly anticipating a quick fill.
opened the valve, tank pressure 3000psi. Gun pressure 1000 psi.

I don't understand what is going on, can still fill fine from the hand pump (which is what I want to quit doing).

bled the pressure down to 200 psi in the gun, tried to fill from the tank again.

when it "equalized", tank pressure 2500 psi, gun pressure 1000 psi.

this is a brand new gun, maybe 200 shots from the hand pump. Help???

Almost all paintball tanks have a built in regulator valve assembly. When you bled off rifle pressure to 200lbs and attempted a refill you hit 1000lb in the rifle, that would be the max regulated pressure obtainable from your paintball tank. Most paintball tanks are not suitable for a Marauder as they just don't allow a high enough fill pressure.

So let me recap, 3000lb input tank fill pressure, 1000lb regulated output pressure.

masked is exactly right.

look at some of the mini tanks from air hog. for example the pigmee is around 9 cu feet, and is 4500 psi. you can get about 17 fills into the marauder.

it can all be very confusing...

You guys nailed it, I figured this out last night after some tests.
OK, so how to I get a tank that will let out 2500-3000 psi??

I was hoping I could adjust the output on this one but it looks like it can only be adjusted down to 500-600 not up.

this was a cheap steel 60 cu-inch I think.

I should have just went with the scuba tank at $250 with 10 free fills, I think this is what I'm gonna do.

You need a scuba or scba tank and an appropriate fill adaptor. Check with your local dive shop on the max filling pressure they can provide. If you buy a scba 4500lb tank and your dive shop can only fill to 3500lb you will get a short fill, in other words the tank is not filled to its capacity and you will not get many refills on your rifle.

Try to get a HP steel scuba tank at the minimum, which would be 3345lb for a new one or 3500lb for used one. 3500lb tanks are not manufactured anymore, but can be found used. Scba or fireman tanks are good if your dive shop can fill them, but they have a 15 year lifespan and entry cost can be high.

Forget the 3000lb aluminum tanks because you won't get many fills before it drops below rifle fill pressure.

I got the aluminum tank, which he says he can fill to 3500.
I only had him fill to 3K because I have un-regulated transfer line.
I guess I have to break down and get the regulated fill line so I can get the extra pressure and fills.
thanks

I have two steel scuba tanks that i use for the gun a 100 and 133, i use the 100 and fill the gun to 2500, i only use this tank until it can't fill to 2500, then
i use it to fill to what ever, it still is filling to 2000 and then i top it off with the 133. i shoot a fair amount and i am still using the air that i got in January.

Cascading.

You don't need a regulated fill line.

I fill my 3000 psi Marauder from my 3500 psi scuba tank with no problem.

Just hook it up, open the valve, just a small amount, watch the gun guage as it slowly approaches 3000 psi, then shut the valve when the gun guage hits 3000.
It usually takes less than 10 seconds to fill the gun.

When the scuba tank gets low enough, below 3000 psi, I can teather the gun directly to the scuba tank and shoot until the tank is around 2000 psi.

Then it is time for a scuba tank refill.
