new.22 cal

Postby FMGlass » Wed Dec 31, 2014 5:42 pm

I am looking for a .22 rifle and don't know what to get. I tried a mrod and it didn't shoot very straight. I am open to new or used and I can spend about 500 dollars give or take a little. I thank anybody who reply. Thanks.

Get a 25 cal instead, the crosman 22 barrels are known for accuracy issues. The green mountain .25 barrels are known for great accuracy.

Yes, the 25 Marauder is the Marauder to get and it is not easy to get a gun that has so many good qualities for this price point.

If you want 22 caliber, there are several good ones, but the right one for you depends on your needs, e.g., does it need to be quiet?

Here are a few to look at, but most are very loud (compared to Marauder) in their stock configuration.

Hatsan AT44-10 Long QE
Sumatra 2500 Carbine
Evanix RS II
BSA Scorpion 1200 SE

If you can boost your budget, the Air Arms 22 are very accurate and quiet and are so beautifully made they make the Marauders look like a truck gun by comparison.

25 M-rod | 40 shots @ 35 FPE -4% | 3100 fill
22 M-rod | 51 shots @ 25 FPE -4% | 3100 fill
17 M-rod | 50 shots @ 19 FPE -4% | 2500 fill
25 P_rod | 16 shots @ 29 FPE -3% | 2100 fill

Then since you already have the others covered, I suggest watching for a good used .22 Mararuder to be offered on the Yellow Classifieds. They come up as people decide to sell off guns as they move up or on to other things.

That way you can buy one at a good price with demonstrated capability, as a good seller will include pictures of targets from that gun - plus they tend not to oversell accuracy as they don't want to get complaints. It is a good system there with the BOI, much like e-bay.

I think there are some very good barrels out there for the Marauder 22 if you want to improve accuracy ,
Seems that would be the best way to go, I am still a novice , But that is the way I would do it on a budget,,,
