H&N Field Target Trophy .22 5.53

Postby dunk50 » Sat Jul 06, 2013 7:00 pm

I bought 4 tins of these H&N Field Target Trophy .22 in 5.53 I ordered from PyramydAir. It was a long wait but happy when they came. Then I opened them. YUK!! I am guessing but I would say 30% of them have a bad mark on the skirt right on the bottom of the base. It looks like they were hit with a flat blade screwdriver. That means a screwdriver indentation type notch 180 degrees apart. I took some photos but I always have trouble posting them.

EEK! I just received an order of 8 tins last week... I only opened two for inspection/shooting... neither tin had any pellets that look anything like yours thankfully...off to open the rest of my tins!

Darnit... 4 of my tins have these... not sure how many but more than they should! What is pyramid's policy on this kind of thing? I'll be calling Monday morning to see what they will do.

I didn't want to wish ill on anyone BUT I was hoping I was not the only one. They would think I was nuts. I sent an email to H&N and PyramydAir. Will call on Monday also.

well, I shot a small sample of the Bad pellets mixed with good on my 25yd backyard range just now, no noticeable difference in accuracy... of course add another 5 or more yards and things could change QUICK. My tins came wrapped in sets of two, 2 of the sets were fine and the other two sets had these pellets... I don't see a lot# on the tins. I think I'll still call PA and see what they say... if nothing else it will help dunk's case ;)

Thanks for the heads up! it would have been a few months before I found the bad tin's... as luck would have it, the way I stacked them on my pellet shelf the bad tins were at the bottom :o

I just got a couple of tins and noticed the same mark on some of them. They still aren't as good as they were, for me, but I'll keep picking up an occasional tin to see if they get back to as good as they were.

Guys, if they are like this I don't want to use them for anything approaching distance and accuracy. I would never know. If they are all like this, what is the second highest recommended pellet as I believe these were by far the first.

What tins are you guys getting that have the bad pellets? The new ones with the screw on lid? I just got 14 tins of the screw on lid and all of them are good, no deformed pellets. Check on the label on the bottom and see if the bad pellets are from the same batch. The number on my tins is CH 13011 90300 13. I'm curious to see if you all got pellets from the same batch. I shot groups with them and they are just as accurate as the "old" tins. One ragged hole with 8 shots at 25 yards
