Hi all.

I just fully rebuilt my marauder to install some new goodies from pete garden sniper and wondered if anyone had an improved valve stem and poppet.

I noticed a2a has one.

Anyone try it?

What were your results?

Or maybe just clean up the stock one a bit. The plastic casting is a bit rough.

Ground down the stock poppet stem within throat to @ .095" on the .22 and use a ATA reduced diameter poppet on the .177
Given the choice and cost would use the ATA poppet if servicing

Tho must say ... DO NOT like the ADA set up of using no poppet spring. Actually have found efficiency INCREASES with a poppet spring heavier than stock when using factory hammer. Go regulated and it ALL changes in ideal configuration

Is the ATA poppet compatible with the stock 22 valve? Any advantage to upgrading the poppet/stem if I am not running more than modest power tunes?

Also, where does the poppet seal? I can't see inside the valve well enough to tell. Is it at the flat face where the valve stem comes out (this is my guess but my stock poppet did not look that clean/flat on this surface)? Here is an image of a "hopped up" one for 25 M-rod. I can see where they turned down the stem diameter near the poppet to improve air flow.

Typical top hat design poppet.

Poppet seals the throat around the O.D. margin.
In a modest tune using the ADA poppet may show a tad power increase, but without other "Flow" mods to valves plumbing it won't be anything dramatic imo

Is the poppet slightly tapered (e.g., funnel or cork shaped) so that it fits into the throat to seal?

Garden Sniper Pete provided me with a valve cap and gauge block that have been funneled to improve flow, but the output side (to the transport) is unchanged.

That stock poppet does not even look precision enough to seal the valve properly. I'm pretty amazed that they work so well. It looks like a kid's toy stamped out of plastic.

As you know, I'm mostly looking for balance, so I was just wondering if there is an advantage for me given that I am not shooting for peak output power.

I really do value longish shot strings with small ES with reasonable squirrel killing power. These are my current Marauders

22 Prod 24 shots at 16 FPE - 25 ES.
22 Mrod 50 shots at 22 FPE - 24 ES.
25 Mrod 16 shots at 42 FPE - 19 ES.

No cork taper .... brim of the hat sits on edge of the hole just overlapping by an @ 1/16 - 3/32 seat width.
Seat and poppet rely on being square and true so the seal margin is in uniform contact.

It also looks like care has been taken to allow flow behind poppet to flow towards stem base.

Is A2A smooth flow a high flow poppet that can be used with stock valve and spring? If so, maybe I should try one with Garden Sniper Pete's improved valve cap.

Yup the reduced diameter stem ADDS area and volume to the throat area behind the seat increasing flow potential.
