That is funny!
When I catch them in my live traps (for snake food), I dump them into an old pillowcase and swing a round house from behind and slam them against the ground. It works quick and every time.
I used to feed them to my snakes alive (and that works well too if the snakes are hungry and is fun to watch), but if the snakes were not very hungry, the larger rats would bite the snakes many times often breaking the skin.
