De-gas syn-rod?

Postby jfm30204 » Mon Mar 16, 2015 3:55 pm

I need to de-gas in order to install a new gauge and hopefully end the pressure difference between the gun gauge and that on the Hill pump. I tried the degassing tool, but it does not work. I might be able to make it work by applying an insane amount of force, but that does not seem to be the thing to do. I certainly do not want to break anything. It seems pretty straight forward, and the instructions are clear, but it is very very tight and does not want to move. Any suggestions?

If you have a hand pump to fill the gun you can pump the gun so the check valve opens and then slowly open the pressure release on the pump..That is how I usually do it since I lost the tool. 8-)

Did you dry fire the gun prior to using the degassing tool? The degassing tool merely pushes on the hammer, thus opening the valve.

Or since you are removing the gauge, just un-screw it a few turns till it slowly leaks, then a few turns until the gauge shows zero PSI, two birds one stone.

I got it. The tool was hanging on the stock. It didn't appear to be, but I removed the stock and was able to degas. As I found out, it doesn't take much turning, either. Scared my socks off when it went.

Next time use duct tape to hold your socks on. Yep, it don't take much of a turn once the degas tool makes contact.

Actually, it wasn't my socks that I lost. I was just being polite. Got the gauge replaced. Then after about 1000 psi on the pump up, I had to degas again to put more tape on the threads. Hope it's fixed. We'll see. I do know that the gauge appears to mirror the pump gauge, so that part is good.

ran into the degass/stock issue too...got my Synrod replaced due to leak and the gauge on the Synrod and Mark IV pump agree 100%...perhaps I got lucky but it's nice they match readings.
