Enhancing stock finish

Hi all,

Wondered, if you might share with me some techniques for in enhancing the stock on the Marauder. Still waiting for its arrival but I anticipate wanting to do this. Haven't been able to locate how the stock is finished from the manufacture -- and what they used. Would appreciate any feedback on what others have done . Thank you. Joe

I am not an expert, but the marauder stock seems to have a light matte polyurethane finish over a muddy brown stain. It's all pretty easy to sand off without the use of stripping chemicals (unlike some other stocks that require strong strippers, a hazmat suit, and back hoe just to get the finish off ) I believe the wood is Sycamore, and doesn't show a lot of grain or figuring. I am contemplating cutting off 4 or 5 inches of the forend to make the stock shorter and the overall package a bit lighter.


Here's what it looks like after stripping and a tung oil finish:

Don't be afraid to strip it down and start cutting and sanding.
I stripped mine down and took off the right comb, shortened the length and took off a lot of the forearm width.
There actually is some nice grain in there, ya just gotta use a little elbow grease to find it.



Finish is really nice now - the camera flash made the middle look a little lighter, but it's really an even dark look for the entire stock !

Nice looking stocks.There's some nice wood under that crummy finish they come with.Ive been reading alot of the post on here about the .25 and had to get myself one.I will post a pic of my stock after I figure out how to attach a pic.
