Want to mod my synod

Postby helimech81 » Wed Dec 10, 2014 6:33 pm

I have finally gotten a chrony and want to seriously look into modding my .22 synrod. The two mods I was looking at doing first is the LW barrel and a regulator. As far as my mechanical abilities, I can swap parts like no other, but I can't drill a straight hole to save my life. That being said, drop in mods would be best for me. I've been looking at a Marmot Militia drop in LW barrel, but they have been backed up for quite some time. Is there anyone else who sells a drop in barrel? Now the regulator I've read mixed reviews on. Some say it's worth it, some say no. I guess my ultimate goal for my rifle is to get in the .5" group at 50 yards ballpark and get at least 20 good shots per fill shooting a heavier pellet. I shoot Crosman Premiers now, but I want to shoot a heavier pellet to put a better smack down on what I'm hunting. I also don't want to break the bank modding either. If I'm going to have 2 grand into my marauder, then I'd be better off buying a high end rifle and getting what I'm looking for right out of the box.

If your going to replace the barrel and shoot heavier pellets just buy the green mountain .25 barrel with bolt and baffles from crosman. I think just about everyone is getting .5" groups at 50 yards with the .25's and JSB pellets.

Doc, can you give me a ball park cost for that conversion?

The regulator from Airgun Exporter is pretty much a drop in, uses the stock gage and gage adaptor, and requires no drilling. They will preset it for whatever pressure you request within a 100 PSI give or take. If you grind off one side of the screw as I did you get a bit of fluctuation in FPS, but a cycle time of about a second or two. If you leave the screw as is you get better FPS consistency, and a cycle time of about 10-12 seconds. The gage measures the low pressure side with this regulator. You don't know how much air you have, but you can see your regulated pressure is good. If you happen to have one of the many bad Crosman gages its a good time to replace it. The little 1" Gage from McMaster to replace it is about $11.00.

On second thought it might not be. You would also need a .25 receiver and transfer port tube.

I'd suggest you buy a used or refurbished 25 M-rod instead of spending any more money changing your 22.

Enjoy your 22 for what it is.

If you ever get tired of one, you can sell it and keep the one you use/like the most.

25 M-rod | 40 shots @ 35 FPE -4% | 3100 fill

17 M-rod | 50 shots @ 19 FPE -4% | 2500 fill

Thanks for the info guys. I do want to buy a .25, but I'll never get rid of my .22. I don't want to mod my .22 to a .25 either. When I do get my .25, it'll be used for anything above 40 yards and my .22 will be used for shorter distances. Until then, I'd like to get my .22 shooting well at 50 yards if I can. I've seen a video on the WAR valve and hammer. The guy claims he's getting around 47 ftlbs of energy and a 1" group at 100 yards with the JSB Monster 25 grains. He said he's getting 20 shots per fill as well. I don't need to get that kind of power, but I'd love that accuracy. Bottom line is I would like to get around a half inch group at 50 yards, around 30 ftlbs of energy, and get at least 20 shots per fill. I would like to shoot a heavier pellet, but it doesn't have to be a 25 grain monster. I just want something that can get me that 30 ftlbs accurately and do decently in the wind.

With my .22 Im getting 30 shots and a 29 fpe ave. with jsb 18.1
and all I have done is a 10 lb. spring and the bstaley o-ring mod
shooting 1/2" groups at 50
I have been pretty happy with it but wanted a little more power for longer shots so I just got a .25, and boy does it shoot lights out--ragged hole at 50
