I finally tried my first depinger today in my .177. I went with a single rolled vinyl type and pushed it probably just over 1/3 of the way down the tube. Wow, what a difference......I can't even hear a hint of a ping now.

While I was at it I put some hollow tubes of melamine foam (magic eraser) in all five of my baffles (talon shroud extension). Now about the only thing I can hear is the hammer hitting the valve stem, and the pellet hitting the target!

I thought it was quiet before, but it's almost eerie how quiet it is now.

Can't wait to see how quiet I can get my .25!

I've used a 4" piece of vinyl tubing and put it about half way in the tube not over lapping but tight and my rifle sounds like it has gotten louder? I heard some one say that they were using silicone tubing if so what is the hardnees of the tubing?
Thanks< Ken

ward360 wrote:So my marauder was sitting next to me and my Netbook in front of me (Audictiy installed already) and you got me thinking

I took a sample of the ping (no Depinger installed)

What I ended up with was from 2800 psi to 2100 psi 41 cycles in .081 sec
1\.081=12.34567901234568
12.34567901234568*41=506.1728395061728
So we are looking at a 506hz tone
It seemed to stay a consistent frequency throughout the ping cycle. Which is amazingly long, .56 seconds at 2100 psi (longer with more Pressure)

Humm is that right? I found this page. http://www.phys.unsw.edu.au/jw/hearing.html
500hz sounds just about perfect!
The 1/2 wave of 500 hz is 250hz, go to this page and bounce back and forth between the two, my ears say that -3 to -6 db down on 500 hz is the same loudness as 250hz

Our hearing sensitivity is peak in the 2000hz to 5000hz range, 500 is way closer then 250hz to our peak sensitivity range. And the 500hz tone is very harsh on my ears! The 250hz range is a much softer tone.

Instantly by installing a Depinger we are dropping the frequency of the ping out of our hearing range by a lot! not counting the Vibration absorbing quality of the vinyl tubing against the steel!

This Weekend I will probably Deping my Marauder. I think I will do it in thirds! I will sample it and my friends 1/2 Depinged Marauder and repost.

I suspect that between the Dampening effect of the Vinyl and the Wave dropping away from our peak sensitivity we will not notice a difference between 1/3 and 1/2. I will sample anyways!

I will repost when I know more!

Ward360,
Great link above, after digging deeper into that page, there is an animation that best describes what we are trying to avoid.
Please scowl down to the Air Motion Animation, and Higher Resonances in the time domain (almost at the bottom of the same page) it will give us M/P Rod fans something to refer to.

A lot of information and ideas about depinging Marauders. Vinyl tubing, silicone tubing, if all we have to do is to "disrupt" the air flow, MIGHT HOT WATER PIPE FOAM INSULATION WORK?? Anyone try this?? Since I have a Freedom 8 Shoebox compressor and filling from zero is no sweat, I'm goona give it a try tonight. I'll cut a 1" piece and see how that works. If it doesn't, I'll try a 2" piece. I'll let y'all know how it works out. Did anyone else try this?? So far getting great groups with JSB Match DIABOLO heavy EXACTS .177. Is there a better pellet??

I had my 22 cal apart over the weekend swapping out Stayley O-ring's,transfer ports and what not and decided to check the air tube for rust or corrosion. I'm happy to report it all looked good. While I had it apart I removed my two pieces of vinyl which I had butted up edged to edge at 1/3 and 2/3 in the tube and tried the one piece rolled, half way down the tube. I've got to say this method removed all my noticable pink. Just thought I'd pass it on.

Hi jimmyk.

Do you mean one overlaps the other end so that it is inside the other - like a snail or cinimon roll?
How long is your vinyl tube?

I still trying to figure out a good depinger for my P-rod. I have tried several, but still get the ping.

Thats correct Ray, rolled up length wise like a cinnomon roll. The length on mine was 1 1/2" and pushed halfway down the tube.

On page 4 Airriflehunter installs a vinyle piece that touches end to end. On this page Jimyk has on rolled up lika a cinammon roll. Does either one work or is one better than the other?

All of my versions have been the cinnamon roll, I havent tried an end to end piece but the best results so far for me was 1.5" piece pushed only 1/3 of the way in the tube. Ive also tried the 2 piece depinger but the aforementioned method has produced the best results for my gun.
