an idea to quiet down the marauder.

The marauder use 4 baffles to quiet the gun. I was just thinking, instead of an extension which adds 2 more baffle and making the gun much longer. What if you cut each baffle in half, so you can fit up to 8 half size baffles. Would that make the gun much quieter than using 4 standard baffle? I would try it, but i dont wanna cut my baffles in half and the result turns out to be the same. What do you guys think? Would it make the marauder more quiet, same, or even louder?

You might be able to find some of the posts by searching 'baffle mods' or something like that. There have been some fairly extensive experiments with this. I think reducing them all in half actually made it louder. It also seems like 6 baffles offered the best results. I'm just going from memory right now, so details may be sketchy. But the ideas and experiments have been floating around for a while. :)

it's all about volume, then stripping.... but first off you need the volume for the air to have a place to expand, then you need effective strippers to .. well strip the air, and then redirect it, neither of these things are there with the stock shroud, one thing that would help the stock setup a Wee bit is to drill holes into the baffle backing plate at the barrel so the rest of the tube volume could be used, but your still stuck with very inferrer baffles that have a way over sized hole and do not redirect any air movement....pressure will push some into the tube, but no were near enough to get the mouse fart

Any chaance the LDC design could be made to replace the baffles with a one-piece insert that would work better than the stock baffles? :D

well... yes and no. there are designs out there that are one pice, but your still stuck with the lack of volume space for the air to go. quite a few have milled up one pice systems for the airforce ss's. the airforce frames running a 12 inch barrel have a true 1 x 6 inch dead space volume, wile these one picers help some they certainly do not measure up to an extended shroud, and as we all know the m-rod shroud doesn't come close to that amount of volume... so something like that would help over the stock baffles, but I'm not sure it would make a big enough difference to justify the cost

Just drilling out the forward shroud mounts 6 holes to 3/16" helps quiet down the .177 & .22 :P

Motorhead: please help me identify exactly what piece(s) "forward shroud mounts" are.
Thanks, Doug

I read this post and came up with an idea. I will cut the factory baffles in half. You will then have one cylindrical shape piece that is open on both ends and the top piece that has the original size hole in it from the factory. I will take the bottom half and add a flat washer to the top to replicate the factory baffle top opening. You will end up with essentially 8 smaller baffles rather than 4 larger ones. I will need to trim the lenght of the baffles once they are cut to allow for the 4 flat washers I will be adding. I will then re-assemble the gun and test it. If I don't get good results I may drill 3 small holes in the shroud to allow for air escapement. Once the holes are drilled I will slide the shroud back over the o-ring on the muzzle end of the barrel. Once the shroud is past the o-ring I will put a few cotton balls inside the shroud. This should help quiet down the air coming out of the small holes I made. This is just a thought and, worst case senario is having to buy a new shroud and baffles. I will give it a try and see what happens

I just realized I will also need to drill a few small holes in the plastic piece at the end of the muzzle. This would allow air to escape into the rear of the shroud and then through the cotton and out the holes in the rear shroud area.

on second thought. cotton may be too thick. I might put a little cheesecloth or some steel wool and see what happens. I will report back.
