Hey Nalby, that's a nice piece. Easy in, easy out. How long did it take you? Care to market some of these? Cheers. Steve

Thanks guys. It took a while, it was the first time I did theading on the lathe. They are not for sale as of yet, but I just got laid off so maybe I'll try to make some for the extra cash. I don't know I think about it.

Buttonhead Version !

Shortest I could locate was 3/4"...but 30 seconds on a Wilton grinder works.

Heck yes that'll work. I had to grind and file mine down too to make it work. Looks fine, good job. :D

Supercharged86 wrote:Well there was another discussion here somewhere (can't find it now) about the possibility of losing velocity if this hole was plugged. Somebody said that because this hole is acting like a vent, plugging it will not allow the hammer to function properly and thereby effecting overall velocity. Although someone else said it didn't change the velocity, for some reason for me it was off by 20-25 fps. I had to double check everything to make sure it wasn't a coincidence, nope, definately reduces the velocity :?: :?: :?:. So the nice new stainless plug idea was short lived. I guess now it's off to plan C, drill a small hole down the center to if that returns everything back to normal.

Super,

I am with you. I have noticed a difference. I use to have a habit of putting my thumb over the hole when shooting. However, I noticed a POI shift. I quit covering the hole and the FPS went up and POI back to normal. After a few hundred shots, I determined I would just not plug the hole.

Also, other than looking nice... I am not sure if there are any other benefits(?).
Blessings,
Jeff

Doesn't the full Greg Davis tune for Marauders come with a plug like this? Since he's supposedly _the_ guy for Marauder tuning, doesn't is stand to reason that having the hole plugged is not a bad thing to do? :)

No, it stands to reason that Davis is attempting to add to the overall charge to the rifle. Davis (from what I am told) also will trim down a LW barrel (the outside) to fit the factory end barrel bushing. This changes the harmonics of the barrel and should never be done. Also, Mr. Davis removes the barrel band to make the barrel "a true floating barrel." From my own experience, this is a horrible idea. The barrels are not made of hardened steel and will bend easily. Removing the barrel band is a horrible idea and I learned the hard way what happens when you bump the barrel. Of course the POI changes and it is hard to get it back. You can also bump the barrel and bend the shroud. Yet, Mr. Davis promotes this removal and his new accessory as something that should be done.

So, it now stands to reason that Mr. Davis is simply doing what the customer asks and doing what every other business man or woman is doing... making money to keep his business open. :)
Blessings,
Jeff
