Bullpup stock pix from Golddredger MORE pix new Bull design

Postby golddredger » Mon Feb 04, 2013 6:56 pm

Hey guys. I am getting closer all the time to finishing this project up so it will be ready to market. Here is a sneak peek at the stock. It has an amazing feel and hand placement is perfect. This one is cut from French walnut and is the first test stock. I want to make a few changes and add some more "meat" around the pressure gauge. But this one I will finish out for myself so we can see the end result. The scope is still mounted for my regular stock. So I am now looking to the scope mounts and the trigger setup. The stock is very strong yet light. It may not be everyones "style" but I do like it a bunch and it feels awesome. I do not like to do things like others so I have chosen a design that is fresh and new not the same old boxy bullpups you see. Here is the pix. I will get some better shots in the sun I just slipped these in tonight as it was getting dark. This stock has zero finish on it and is raw wood.

Thanks fellas. Takes about 2 hours to carve on the duplicator. Lots of holes to cut. French walnut is rock hard to so it takes a bit more time. I will do the next one in Claro walnut. I also have some birds eye maple big enough to cut one now. I want to finish up the first one here and go from there.

Clean STRAIGHT lines without all the swoopy fancy curves IMO will be more universally appealing ;)

I like some curves, and tend to like when the front of the stock has the beak-shape of a predatory bird, but it is a little much. I think the look would work better with a straight line along the top, next to the reservoir. That said, all of those curves sure beg for a laminated stock. :D Would look good, IMO. I don't like a real blocky shape, either.

I'd love to see you offer another one without a front vertical grip and the added forms at the botttom. Personally, I find a traditional foregrip hold (palm up) is more stable than a vertical front grip. Pick up something with some weight and try holding it both ways and see if you agree. Of course, if the line on the top of the stock is straight, I (or anyone else) could alter the rest of the stock to fit their preference. That top line doesn't look like it has enough meat on it to allow cutting it down to it's lowest point.

I do like the stocks you've been showing and can appreciate the time and effort.

Wow! Elegant and skilled artistic work!
With that being said, I'm with Motorhead about a more utilitarian, tactical design. I'd be afraid I'd break or scratch this.

But I will say this, If Gandalf wielded a bullpup in LOTR, I'd envision it to look exactly like that. Crafted by Elven master carvers from the oldest trees in Fanghorn forest.

i agree with Scott, Ron & RR
it's sure is pretty
but would be more practical with utilitarian lines

LOL!!!! Feedback is very good. I knew posting and while building this it would not be everyones cup of tea! It is great to get feedback and what it sounds like is I need to find a happy medium between "boxy" and "styled" Somewhere in the middle. I will draw up some more plans and carve another master and we will see what happens. I am still going to finish this one as I dig it and I have lot's of time wrapped up and I know some guys will want it. This design is intended for a Laminated blank and you hit that right on the head. However buying a full width block of laminated has become a problem. I need a blank that is not cut down into the classic rifle sizes. It need to be a big rectangle. Tough to buy. I sourced the main place that makes laminated but they will get close to 250 to 300 for the block. Not worth it for one. So back to regular woods.

No for grip? Interesting. I was big on the fore grip but I will try my hardest to tame down and try a simpler design with a mild style! ;)

Think for most guys wanting a Bull Pup conversion .... it becomes FUNCTION over form with a style that stays K.I.S.S. in its simplicity.
