question about bstaley mod and output.

Hey all,

Well I've done the mod and everything was good, accuracy was superb, power was plenty to knock a bunny over with, I was happy. But I went out last night, and I think something may'be happened. Seemed like there was enough power to travel 50m, knock a bunnies head in, but not kill it , then the follow up(at point blank) didn't even break skin.

Was set to 850fps with cp's 14.3g.

Also, what can I expect to get as a maximum fps with the Staley mod with a gen 1 mrod?

Something is very wrong there - even a 400 fps 14.3 grain pellet would have no problem finishing of a bunny at the muzzle. I suggest you retest on the chrony to see wha tis going on.

I used to run a Staley tune at over 30 FPE in my .22, so you can get to higher energies than you are now, but you will probalby want to use a heavier pellet if you do so.

Something must have happened. 14.3s at 850fps should give you 16 fpe at 50 meters.. That's plenty to knock out most small animals. Are you sure you had enough psi in your air tank? You will have to shoot over a chrony again. Im betting you aren't where you think. Also consider a heavier pellet of those long distance shots to maximize impact.

Maybe your o-rings got out of position.

I don't use BHB o-rings any more (except in my P-rod).

BHB is where you put some o-rings up against the valve to buffer the hammer strike.

It somewhat flattens out the shot string, so it has the nick name, "Poor man's regulator"

I tried it extensively, but eventually decided it was not for me.

I tune with valve modifications and spring adjustments now.
