Accuracy has fallen off

Postby Walx on Fri Nov 19, 2010 5:08 pm

As of late my groups have gotten worse. We are talking 10 shot group at 35 yards that a quarter won't cover with 2 or 3 fliers. Use to that was a one hole group dime size. I have cleaned the barrel and checked every thing to make sure it's tight and can't see anything thats being hit with no difference. I'm shooting kodias 21 grain at 780 fps. Anybody had this problem or anyone have any ideas?

How clean did you get the barrel? If you cleaned it up to much it seems to take about 40 shots to get it back right.

Cleaned it 2 weeks ago and have put about 400 rounds through it since then. All this started before I cleaned the gun. I'm at a lost. Does anyone sell a barrel like the 25cal for the 22 cal?

I would have to say that something is lose.
Did you tune it at all or is everything set at factory? I would start with the metering screw. And if possible try it with out the shroud on, using only the barrel.

Just got to thinking I had 1 tin of pellets from crosman that shot like crap! I grabbed another tin from the safe and I was back to my normal groups. Just a thought

Yes it has been tuned. I too thought I might have a bad tin of pellets but after opening a new tin it shoots the same. I will retune it today and try that. If that doesn't work I will try washing and maybe lubing some pellets and see if that helps and report back. Thanks for the thoughts.

Hey Walx,
I agree something has came lose or changed. It has happen to me ! But it was a simple fix for me. My hammer stroke (striker) changed on me and my POI changed alot. I seen in a post on this site that it had happen to some one else. Check EVERYTHING! Let us know how it comes out.

Retuned gun. These are my groups now. Using mag, pellets right out of tin 5 shot group at 30 yards .45 inch. Washed pellets using mag .80 inch. Washed pellets using SS tray .65 inch. Pellets out of tin not washed using tray .60 inch. Groups are a lot better now. I guess something may have moved like hammer or spring tension. All groups are one hole some just bigger. Thanks for all the ideas on what may be wrong.

You likely follow the factory 500 shot rule but as I have seen it effect groups, you DO lube the o-ring inside the barrel right?

I do lube the oring. I go though 500 rounds in no time. Home for 2 weeks at a time. This past time home I shot a little over 1000 rounds. The time before that it was somewhere around 1500. Practice makes perfect. Bad thing is this is not the only gun I shoot. I put close to 100 round through my 500 S&W and a bunch through the 300 wsm. What can I say I like to shoot.
