.177cal Pellet Preferences

I can only say, from my limited benchrest testing at 10 yards, that Beeman Kodiacs shoot a little bit better than the 10.5gr Crosman Premier domes. Hope to test a couple more pellets today at 25 yards, but it'll depend on weather, and whether I can get a lane with a bench.

What are your experiences with pellet accuracy from your .177 Marauder?

As a result every Marauder has a liking for a particular brand / type of pellet. Mine works best with the Gamo promag.

Suburban, Better than the CPH's, wow! I might have to try those, however, the Beeman Silver Arrows that I had high hopes for didn't work out to well, unless I slow them down to the 675's. I've had really good luck with the CPH's and the Eunjin 16.1's. But Shamsher is right, unfortunately what works in one might not work in another. Thanks for the tip. Steve

The Shamsher is right. I installed a new .177 Crosman barrel and the choke is definitely not as tight as the factory original barrel. In fact, I pushed a pellet down the bore of the original barrel and I was surprised that the pellet had little or no resistance after I got several inches passed the transfer port area. It was this way all the way to the muzzle/choked end of the barrel. I did the same thing with the new barrel and found it had consistant resistance all the way to the muzzle end of the barrel. The original barrel had deeper rifling cuts in the pellet than the new barrel. So much for the QC program at Crosman! Crosman Premier 10.5gr pellets are the hands down winner in the new barrel. Couldn't be happier with the performance. By the way, I tested Benjamin Discovery 10.5 HP 2nd place, H&N Barracuda Match 10.6, Beeman Kodiak 10.6, JSB Exact Heavy 10.3, RWS Superdome 8.3, JSB Exact 8.2, and Beeman Silver Arrow 11.4. Once I'm satisfied that the new barrel performance is consistant, I'm going to try the heavier stuff. eg Eujin 16.1's.

Jlc, What's your preferred setting(s) and velocity? If nothing else it seems everyone with a .177 has great luck with the CPH's. Steve

I honestly don't know, i have never checked, set as it came from Crosman. But it
shoots very accurately, normal fill for me is about 2400 and shoot it down to about 1700.
And then bring it back up with a scuba tank. the .22, i shoot same pressures, never
checked the settings, but it to is just as accurate, and i use the cp 14.5's with the .22.
Some day i may get into the tuning, but since they shoot so good (and i just target shoot), i basically don't want
to screw things up.

Mine eats center of target @ 20 yds with crosman 10.5 ultra mag's.

jlc, Based on my records, the factory settings are generally around 2-2 1/2 on all three settings and with a 2400-2500 fill pressure, you're looking at 900 with the CPH's. That's why she's shooting so well! Although the CPH's were originally designed for the 800-850 range, they respond well all the way up to the 1000 mark. Don't by afraid to check the settings, it's a piece of cake. Cheers. Steve
