Scopes for .22 synthetic Marauder

Postby airriflerathunter » Tue Jan 07, 2014 7:59 am

What scopes have members found to be the best mounted a top a .22 synthetic Marauder? I'm using a BSA "Essential" AR312X44AO. I'm not really all that stoked on that scope. In fact, I have to send one back to Cabela's for a refund because it wouldn't hold POA. I'm shooting rats,@night. At about 25-30 yds. from a blind-[because I live in a city...and I don't want the SWAT team showing up to my back door. After one of the next building's tenants called 911 saying-"Oh my God! there's a man on his back porch w/a Sniper rifle"!] * also how quiet is YOUR Marauder .22 synthetic? I think mine should be quieter after watching videos on You Tube. Some of those rifles were VERY quiet.

I have all three caliber Marauders and the 177 is very quiet. The 25 is pretty loud. The 22 is in the middle. You can tune it for lower power (and still have plenty of power for rats) and make it quieter. If you don't mind spending a bit more, several vendors make LDCs that you can add on to the end of your shroud that make it quieter too. They do make it longer. You can also slide your rear shroud mount forward and add two more stock baffles to get some more quiet for little extra money.

If you haven't tuned it at all yet, start there. A factory tune might be contributing to a noisy Mrod. If you have, what fpe are you shooting at? For rats, especially at close range, you will be able to dial the tune down, like Ray said. Do that before purchasing LDC.

Scopes for .22 synthetic Marauder

Definitely give an LDC a try!

My .25 w/LDC and shroud extension IS ridiculously quiet. So, considering you're using a .22 and shooting from a blind, its likely the perfect solution.
Talon Tunes .25 MROD - Reservoir & Shroud Extensions
Teryx Stock - Magpul PRS, MIAD Grip, & MOE RVG
Hawke Sidewinder Tac. 6.5-20x42
Atlas Bipod & Accu-Shot Monopod
Clague C.F. Stripper ;)

Just one last plunge down the rabbit hole...

I put the new style cone shaped baffles in my .22 (7 + the spring), and have a efficient tune, even so it is even quieter with the LDC in place.

I have a huge floodlight shining in the back parking lot. So, from my blind- I bait the rats....they nibble and hopefully if my aim is correct.....the DIE! My rifle is not as quiet as maybe the .177. I have .22 and several buildings for the sound to "bounce off". My neighbors are 30 ft. away. So, I usually wait for a passing vehicle on the adjacent street so I can mask the sound if my shot. The Euro's have suppressors on their air rifles, while we in the U.S. have to have a BATF check plus $200.00 to add one. Ridiculous!

Those of with the Gen 1 gun found that drilling out the vent holes in the front shroud mount made a noticeable difference in sound level. While I have not seen the front mount of the SynRod, I expect the same concept would work. It is probably worth checking into.

Alternately, you could check with Garden Sniper or Hill to find out if their solid front mounts fit the new gun - both significantly increase airflow to the back of the shroud, reducing the sound level quite a bit. That way you can avoid the less stealthy looking (but quieter) look of the LDC on the front.
