Changing out hammer spring for more power

Postby stony30 » Fri Jan 22, 2016 3:25 pm

So I was wanting to increase my velocity without changinging the barrel. Will going to a heavier hammer spring really make a noticeable difference? Any drawbacks ?? Thanks

a .110 transfer port will make the biggest difference. A heavier spring will help as well, especially if you do a bstaley mod on it.

BStaley Mod:

Four o-rings in front of the hammer so the hammer doesn't burp excess air.
Sometimes referred to as the BHB...

Note: I put the heavier spring in my .25.
I didn't like it.

What didn't you like about the heavier spring ? Just harder to cock ?

Barnydaddy was not referring to the prod only his .25 having a stronger spring. I put a stronger stainless steel spring in my prod from McMasterCarr along with drilling out the transfer port to 7/64, and of course the 4 0-rings in front of the hammer and had real good results. I went from shooting my strings from 670ish with a 2700psi fill with a good curve to starting my string after the mods to low 700s to peak the curve into the 720s and back down to the low 700s still with a 2700psi fill for 24 shoots. I love the mods and just alot of fun to shoot using FTTs in 5.55 head size. I also done these mod on suggestion from forum members.

My bad.

I did the whole smear on the PRod.
Drilled out the TP (7/64ths I think)
Put in the spring.
BHB modification.
Ron Easton prepped the barrel.

Became to accurate for me.
I like a challenge.
Sold it to a truck driver in Palm Desert, CA.

I put a heavier spring in the .25 Marauder.
16 shots went to about 12.
Took it out and now is ok 32fpe for 16.

Fine.

You only get 16 shots at 32fpe with a .25 marauder rifle?
