P-rod modded for power

Postby screwwork » Sun Jul 27, 2014 8:14 pm

Hi All,

I'm just made my first mod to my Prod and here is were I'm at now.
I opened up the valve port 0.153, freezer tubing transfer port 0.16 and barrel to 0.153.
Installed 3 orings, bstaley style.
upgraded hammer spring to 0.047- 0.312 x 1.5". added 3 0.047 spacers made from extra spring. total spring length with spacers at 1. 650.
opened up all holes in the air striper to 0.153, moved the shroud to allow 3 P-rod baffles. Thanks Family Man 811
Hammer 3 turns from CCW, beyond 3.5 turns my hammer locks up.
Striker 1/4 turn from CCW

Current tune; 15.9 JSB, 860fps, 26.12fpe. kill range of 0.5" for 13.6 to 37.6 yards and at 60 yards 16fpe.
I set this up to able to take care of Raccoons, Skunks and Opossums at home plus rabbits out hunting.
I will need to buy some pellets for more testing. LOL

More bite than bark!
It is not bad with the extra baffles installed, plus I can lower the tune to 640fps and it is really quiet then.
I'm hoping it will serve both higher fpe and lower fpe when quieter shotting is required.
I just turn the hammer spring to full CCW and shot at 640fps and with 3 turns CW for full power.

How is the cocking action with the heavier spring?
I was thinking about getting the 25cal Hatsan AT P1 for the same purpose (med sized vermin) but seeing the energy you can get out of the prod has me rethinking that choice.

Wasatch,
How is the cocking, you can tell it has a higher compression spring so the cocking is a little harder.
Once I open up the Prod valve a little more, I'm hoping to be able use a 0.041 spring and make the cocking easer and have better power.
You will like having a shrouded gun, the Prod is really loud shooting at that power without the shroud.
I inserted some Prod baffles and moved the shroud forward so it is report is lower.

What are these "Prod baffles" you're using?

I've had a few Prods and none had baffles. They have a one-piece stripper that is longer than the air stripper that comes on the rifles.

It would be cool if someone made the Gen II style baffles that fit in the P-rod shroud.

Ray
I have some Prod baffles I received in a parts trade from another member on the forum.
They are the same as a Mrod Gen1 style baffle just made to fit the Prod.
I dont want to call out the members name without there consent on who made the parts in case they are not making them any more..

The 1720T has baffles and baffle spring. They are the cylinder type bafles, just very small. See: http://www.crosman.com/pdf/manuals/1720T%20EVP%20&%20PL.PDF

I have tried them in a Prod, and didn't seem to make much difference vs the stock airstripper.

Sorry to bump an old thread but I wanted to confirm that this isn't a double tube? Your shot counts are insane for that kind of power. My P-rod is being delivered tomorrow. :D If I can get over 20 fpe with 16 shots I'll be very happy.

It's a single tube Prod, I just opened up the valve, transfer port & barrel a bit.
I'm using 0.3 x 0.045 x 1.5 spring now with less spring binding.
