Synrod .25 teardown/rebuild...Questions...LOTS of pics

Postby Marauder 120 » Mon Mar 16, 2015 10:44 pm

Hello all, I have been following this site for a while now and finally decided to sign up. I purchased my .25 synrod last year along with the benji pump. I have put thousands of pellets through it with no problems what so ever! However, I notice that every time I fill the gun there is a considerable amount of moisture on the end of the foster fitting. So, I have decided to disassemble the gun to inspect the internals. NOT GOOD, corrosion, rust etc... So I have ordered new O-rings, New valve stem, New valve spring, New transfer port and O-rings, New gauge, New Gauge Port, New fill adapter and a new fill adapter screen. All of these parts have suffered damage. So, apparently I need to figure out a way to dry the air going into the pump...any suggestions on that??? The air tube and valve body appear to be in perfect condition thank god! So my main question is, what procedures should I follow when reassembling??? Should I grease all the O-rings with divers silicone grease or reassemble with dry O-rings? Also, when I opened up the air tube, it was full of this white gunk, EVERYWHERE and it was wet! Not sure what it was but I will post lots of pics. I also want to polish the Hammer and end of air tube where hammer slides...any suggestions on that??? I will post more as I go on. BTW its nice to be a marauder forum dude now 8-) ...Hope the pics upload properly!

I polished a hammer, never again, because two polished surfaces + one microscopic piece of debris = Stuck hammer

Do you live near saltwater?

And, your pump needs a desiccant based air filter added to the in-take port, it is posted quite a few times on the board

Wow that looks aweful!

Yes, hand pumps push moisture into your gun.

If you can fill from a compressed air tank, you avoid that mess.

Some have installed dessicant air filters on the input to their hand pump.

Thanks for the quick replys! Thats a good idea Ray, I was thinking of using a hill pump filter, all though I have never personally seen one so idk if it would adapt. Any idea what all the gunk inside the air tube is? LUCKILY the air tube is spot-less on the inside!!! :D Should I coat the inside of the air tube with some type of rust eliminator? should I grease all of the O-rings with divers silicone grease when reassembling air tube compnents? Also, There is a youtube video of someone lightly greasing the valve stem/spring with moly graphite, should I do that as well? Sorry about all the ??? but thats all you are going to see for a while :) Where is the de-pinger located on the synrod .25? Is that the black rubber gismo that sits in front of the gauge port? I assume so, how ever i thought they were loicated on top of the hammer... ANY TIPS OR TRICKS are much appreciated!!

OH NO!!! I swabbed the air tube out and thought it looked fine. Well, a closer look reveals it is NOT fine. A rust ring!!! After pouting for a while I decided to figure out what caused this, it lines up perfectly wih the valve O-ring, so apprently the O-ring collected moisture and started rusting the air tube  I might be able to give her a light hone but honstly I dont think its woth a try...my marauder is currently still under warrenty and crosman has sent me a new guage free of charge, what do you think the chances are of getting a new airtube under warrenty??? Probably won't happen, so I wonder what a .25 synrod airtube costs? Every other internal part has already been ordered....Here are some pics of the airtube.

That rust will clean up though, might want to wait and see if a cleaning using 00 steel wool, followed by a healthy coating of any silicon grease like Dow Corning 33 to prevent future rusting will suffice. If for some reason the new valve o-ring doesn't seal (if it is not nicked during insertion) get ahold of some grease that has a seal swell chemical in it, like Dow Corning 55 grease or maybe Parker O-ring lube, coat the ring, install carefully, and then let the chemicals seal it shut for a few hours. PS Most synthetic fork oils for motorcycles have seal swell chemicals as well. $47 is better spent towards getting a filtered pump set up IMHO.

I doubt the o-ring absorbed moisture. The moisture is in your air tube and ran down against the o-ring.

I like Ballistol for coating all my parts before assembly. I spray then wipe it around, then wipe off any excess.

As a test, my buddy coated a steel washer with it along with an untreated washer then left them outside for a year and the ballistol treated one did not rust while the other was fully coated with rust.

That moisture filter was made from parts bought form Harbor Freight Tools

Thanks you guys, this is all very helpful info!!! Ray, I just ordered some Ballistol. I am going to buy (2) of those moisture filteres and I am going to stack them for double protection! IDK how yet, but I am LOL. Now, as far as the airtube goes, lets just say Crosman and I had a little chat. They are sending me a new airtube free of charge!!! :D Should I grease the O-rings with divers silicon before assembly???? or just assemle with dry O-rings? Good thing I chose to inspect my rifle now, because the warrent expires in 1 month. Thanks again for the help! I will keep you posted
