Vantage NP

Postby FuzzyGrub » Mon Mar 10, 2014 4:45 am

OK, I'll be the first to post here. :)

I picked up the Vantage NP on a whim a few years ago. It marked my return to the airgun world, which had ended during my early teen years. There was nothing fancy about this gun and never had a break barrel before. The double recoil was a learning experience for me. I went through a lot of pellet testing, but found the heavier (10g) round nose to be the best. It can shoot them in the low 800's and claimed allot of gray rats that fall when our hickory tree exploded with nuts.

I did make a few mods, with the trigger being the biggest improvement:

- GDT Trigger
- Brass Pivot Washers
- Centerpoint 3-9x40AO
- 1 Piece Scope Mount

These days, it is mainly for camp duty. ie no support equipment needed, and is fully capable of taking out the pesky red squirrels there.

I keep a couple break barrels around too, to keep me in tune with their shooting dynamics.

My re entry into air guns was very similar. I was living on the edge of town back in 2011 and had issues with crows early in the AM and nutters getting into everything so i figured screw it and bought a Benji Titan in .22 at local WalMart. I had a hard time with accuracy as it was my first springer and I was also unaware of the perfect pellet for each gun I figured it was either a good shoot or a bad one. After much disappointment I sold it and found PyramydAir.com where I moved up to a Benji Trail NPXL 1100, but still suffered accuracy woes. After some research I took the plunge into the world of PCPs with my .25 Mrod and it was all over ..I was hooked .. now its at the forefront of my thoughts each day and I dream of one day making it into a business..now I want a mill and lathe and I want to tinker till the good lords takes me away..I love this hobby this sport this passion how ever you tag it once the bug bites you're bit.

I tinkered with a 1377 pistol/carbine before the 1st pcp. That's where the real airgun modding bug took hold.

I never growed up, I was shooting birds and rabbets with my odds and ends BB and pellets guns in my teens and 20s, Then around 1980 something I got hold of a Beeman catalog, I had over 50 center fire and rim fire rifles and pistols , Never had time to shoot them, Sold most of them unshot , Bought a FWB 124 and its been off and on with other pump guns and springers for 30 years. Never really got into tuning a gun,
Its not so much the bang that I like, Its the one hole groups that get me to smiling,
I have waged a war on sparrows for the last couple of years, You shoot one and ten more takes its place...

i got my first 'serious' air rifle in 1989-90...RWS 52 in 177 and very shortly thereafter, a Beeman RX1 in 20 cal both, of which i have to this day and still shoot and hunt with.

i have gotten into the PCP in the last 5 years, though...the 25 cal Mrod and 22 cal AF Talon. both are easy to work on, adjust and modify.

i have a few PB's and do handloading for them, but i get to shoot my air rifles on a daily basis as i live rurally where i'm able to with no hassles. :? :D
