War Valve in Generation 2 Marauder

Postby johnw. » Wed Mar 11, 2015 2:29 pm

I just received the war valve today and installed it.My marauder has been shooting the JSB's in the 820 range down to 770-760 range with 2 clips-this at 2900 fill pressure.I have my settings at 12 and 6 with the metering screw at 5 ,so everythings open.I haven't put the time in like many of you to try all the different possibilities.I was just wanting to try and get this rifle shooting in the 900 f.p.s. range. So I replaced the factory spring with a 12.5 lbs and keep my settings of 12 and 6 the same and of course put the new WAR valve in ,....right off the bat she was putting the JSB's out the muzzle starting at 911 f.p.s. with the 8th shot down to 862.I know I have much to learn in adjusting the settings but just wanted to post this to show that with just changing the factory valve to the WAR valve, it raised my speed by 100 f.p.s.,.....I shot some Eujinns 43.2 over the chrono and they started out at 767 all the way down to 727 for the first clip. The fastest I had them moving before changing the factory valve at was 642f.p.s. -most of the time averaging 620 f.p.s. Anyway ,for some of you veterans ,what would be a good starting point with the Generation 2 marauder and the new valve?

I have GEN I, but WAR with 12.5# spring and HS 4 HT 4 gives me 43.2 Eun Jins at 860 FPS. Fill is around 3000 psi for 8 good shots within 2%. I can get 16 shots if I fill to 3100 psi and accept a 4% ES.

Ray
25 W-rod | 8 shots @ 70 FPE -2% | 3100 fill
25 M-rod | 40 shots @ 35 FPE -4% | 3100 fill
22 M-rod | 51 shots @ 25 FPE -4% | 3100 fill
17 M-rod | 60 shots @ 19 FPE -4% | 2500 fill
25 P_rod | 16 shots @ 28 FPE -4% | 2100 fill

That's pretty good. Your temping me to get another Mrod for tuned for high power just for Raccoons. It would be too much of a pain to pump the gun up that often for paper punching. How loud is this tune compared to a stock tune?

With the NBH it was quieter than a stock 25 M-rod, but that hammer started galling the air tube so I switched back to the stock hammer & polished the air tube hammer area and now it is a little louder than the stock 25, but a whole lot more powerful. I have a very open air stripper on it too, but I don't know how much difference that makes.

I really want to go back to the NBH. I'm going up to visit Travis to see what we can work out. He has some new ideas/prototypes to try out in my 25 W-Rod.

A NBH made from brass and custom sized to fit a lathe turned and polished tube would be an great hammer. I was going to try it, but my lathe only has a 1" bore.

from the factory my rifle was shooting 712 f.p.s. average with the JSB's,.......I didn't believe the results of my chrono -its over 15 years old,...I bought a new chrono and sure enough that was the speed this thing was putting out.I see in the tuning portion ,another marauder brother had his gun shooting 718 f.p.s. with JSB's , right from the start and Ray had commented he thought there was a restriction of the metering screw , maybe being turned when tightening the set screw.Well I can assure you that wasn't my problem,it was adjusted 3 1/2 out just like everyone else has said coming from the factory-I checked the metering screw to make sure it wasn't all the way in .I opened the metering screw ccw 5 turns HT12 HS 6 and it brought my speed up to 820 f.p.s. and the string was in the high to low 700's when finishing two clips .I have a lot to learn with the relationship of the two adjustments but reading others posts it left me wondering if I received a slower gun from the factory.the 800 f.p.s. range is fine for small game but I was really counting on it shooting close to 900 f.p.s. or so,so enters wicked air rifles and their WAR valve .

this is all done at 2900 p.s.i.,......ninja 4500 and air venturi 4500 90 cubic inch tanks with the fill systems on both tanks-I think they fill closer to 2850 psi,....I do have the Benjamin pump as well so I can increase to 3000 p.s.i.,....I bought two smaller tanks as I can take them with me hunting in my backpack and also use the tank first that has the lower air supply and then top off with the full tank -it works out quite well for me,....john

wedges should be made out of delrin
99% of the time it's the shooter, not the gun.
